Palm Oil Wastewater Sludge Treatment

Palm Oil Wastewater Sludge Treatment

24 January 2024

The treatment of palm oil wastewater has become an increasingly important environmental issue. Palm oil is one of the world's major crops, bringing undeniable economic benefits. However, the wastewater generated during palm oil production is challenging to handle, containing high concentrations of organic compounds and various chemicals. This not only causes environmental pollution and disrupts ecological balance but also poses hazards to people's production and livelihoods.

Currently, many palm oil factories are located in Malaysia, Indonesia, and some African countries, serving as major production areas that discharge tens of thousands of oily wastewater daily.

Palm oil wastewater primarily originates from the processes of palm oil pressing and cleaning equipment. This wastewater contains cellulose materials, fats, oils, lubricants, and more. Palm oil mill effluent also includes a significant amount of solids, with suspended solids and total dissolved solids ranging from 18,000 mg per liter to 40,000 mg per liter. These solids are commonly referred to as palm oil mill sludge, including waste such as leaves, branches, press cake, empty fruit bunches, husks, and fibers.

Statistics show that an average palm oil pressing mill discharges approximately 1000 tons of oily wastewater per day. If not treated and directly released, this wastewater would undoubtedly cause significant harm to the natural environment. In fact, the wastewater from palm oil mills is very similar to domestic wastewater in terms of its nature and treatment processes.

The wastewater contains a substantial amount of sludge and some oils. Sludge disc dryer from TIC Technology Co., Ltd. can effectively treat the sludge. Additionally, the dehydrated sludge cake needs to have a high organic content and can be directly used as land fertilizer.

As a professional disc dryer manufacturer and drying solutions provider, we would be pleased to advise you individually, and you are also welcome to send your inquiry to tic@tdgtic.com.
